A cholera outbreak has claimed four lives and hospitalised many others in several communities within the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Daily Trust gathered that the affected communities include Hurti, Bokkos West, Bokkos Central and Mangol.
Our correspondent learnt that several suspected cases were evacuated to primary healthcare centres and the Cottage Hospital in the area for urgent treatment.
Executive Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Mr. Amalau Samuel Amalau, confirmed the development on Monday, saying the council and hospitals were working diligently to manage the situation.

According to him, while some of the affected individuals are recuperating, others have already been discharged.
“Yes, we have a cholera outbreak in some communities in Bokkos. The Primary Health Care Department, in collaboration with the Cottage Hospital, is working in synergy to tackle the challenge.
“So far, we have lost about four persons, and others are being treated or have been discharged. Hurti, Bokkos West, Bokkos Central, and Mangol are the affected areas,” the chairman said.
He urged residents of both the affected communities and the wider Bokkos LGA to remain cautious and adhere strictly to global health guidelines, including maintaining good hygiene and cleanliness.
“We are calling on the good people of Bokkos LGA to be cautious and follow UN health guidelines. They should maintain good hygiene—keep their environments clean, wash hands regularly, clean vegetables and fruits, and drink safe water.
“Most importantly, they should report any symptoms to the nearest PHC or visit the referral centre at any Cottage Hospital in Bokkos,” he advised.
