The Kwara State Ministry of Environment has evacuated the illegal dumpsite along Akerebiata-Abattoir Bridge in Ilorin East LGA.

Speaking during the exercise, the Commissioner for Environment, Hajiya Nafisat Buge, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Abubakar Ayinla, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring a clean and healthy environment for all residents of the state.

The commissioner, who reminded community members that the ongoing outbreak of cholera in some parts of the country called for concerted efforts, assured that the government would not rest on its oars in ensuring that the state continued to be free from the outbreak of cholera.

She said, “The government is committed to maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment.

“This is why various measures have been put in place to forestall outbreak of diseases, especially the ongoing cholera, which is already ravaging some states in the country.

“While we mark the exercise, we also need to be wary and proactive in keeping cholera and other diseases at bay.’’

She, therefore, enjoined residents to join hands with the state government in ensuring a clean environment and desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially on river banks and road medians.
