The NGO pointed out that to attain the MDG on education, government should shift from making laws on education to enforcing them. By this, they said all children will be and remain in school.

Pointing at the “Education for All” campaign in Lagos State, wherein children are fined for not being in school, she stressed that the sorry state of education in Nigeria will improve if states will pursue this dream vigorously.

The visit to Durumi was part of the MTN’s 21-day 1-Goal Yellow Care campaign in Abuja. The 1-Goal programme advocates that the millions of children who have no access to education be helped.

The entire Durumi community gathered at the centre of the village school to witness the event. Speaking at the occasion, the founder of Tabitha Cumi Foundation, Mrs Tayo Erinle, lamented that it pains her to see children who should be in school walk aimlessly on the streets.  

She urged MTN to extend its corporate social service to the Durumi community. Erinle particularly urged MTN to furnish the health post that Tabitha Cumi Foundation has built for the community.

The Regional Sales Manager of MTN, Mr Gbenga Olalandu, stated that the MTN 21-day Yellow Care was designed to educate people on things that are beneficial to them and to also eradicate things that bring less comfort to them.

The Esu of Durumi, Alh Jarumi Shakpara, expressed gratitude to Tabitha Cumi foundation, saying the organisation has done much for the community.

Highpoints of the occasion were the distribution of mosquito nets, doing of health checks for community members and de-worming of children.
