Speaking during the flag-off ceremony of the net distribution at Kajuru, the Programme Manager of Christian Aid, Anthony Edozieno said that the gesture is aimed at complementing the state government’s efforts towards eradicating malaria in the state.
“We are supporting the state government with 15,000 Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs). This is to complement government’ efforts since it has conducted a mass campaign across the state but in Kajuru Local Government Area where we are working presently, data received shows that most households within the community did not get the mosquito nets due to one reason or the other. So, we are distributing the 15,000 nets to those households that did not get the nets during the state mass campaign,” he said.
According to him, 150 Community Development Committees (CDCs) and 40 community agents have been trained in 10 communities in five wards of Kajuru LG to ensure that the desired result for malaria free communities is achieved.
“We have built the capacity of community members to create awareness to the people on the use of mosquito nets and on the need to visit health facilities to access care.
Responding the Chairman of Kajuru LGA, Alhaji Abdulrashid Yaron Kirji and the District Head of Kasuwan Magani, Gambo Yaro commended the groups for choosing their local government and communities as a case study for the project while they assured that they will ensure the people put the mosquito nets to proper use.
