Sokoto, who was arrested penultimate Saturday in Abuja was said to have escaped from police custody in the course of investigations.

Speaking with journalists last Thursday on the State of the Nation after a meeting at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, the National President, Youth Wing Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), Patriot Simon Dolly, conveyed the disappointment of Christian youths with the development.

YOWICAN had in a petition to President Goodluck Jonathan threatened to mobilise youths in protest.

Part of the petition read, “We hereby respectfully give notice Mallam Kabiru Sokoto is not re-arrested to face the full weight of the law of the land, we shall mobilise all Christian youths across the country to embark on a peaceful protest to register our displeasure over this matter.

“This escape episode is unacceptable and offends the sensibilities of right thinking Nigerians irrespective of religion or tribe.”

Dolly reminded President Jonathan that the souls of the children, women and men killed in Madalla are crying for justice and the time for the president to act is now.

Similarly, YOWICAN called on government to to strengthen the anti-graft agencies to fight corruption to the barest minimum.

Dolly thanked labour unions for suspending their industrial action called in reaction to the increase in pump price of petrol at the beginning of the year.

YOWICAN lamented the loss of lives and property the anti-fuel subsidy removal protests caused and advised and Nigerians to monitor the proceeds from the subsidy removal to ensure their full utilization as promised by government.

The youths urged all Christian youths to desist from acts of violence and be law abiding and remain peaceful at all times saying these are injunctions handed man by Jesus Christ.

YOWICAN is the apex and coordinating body of all Christian youth organisations and young persons in Nigeria.
