In his sermon during the funeral service for the staff of the Appeal Court, Lagos Division, the late Geoffrey Ornguga Jirbo, the priest lamented that instead of praying for the dead and asking God to give them eternal rest, some people resort to blaming others said to be witches and wizards.

He said, “We do say it is the witch/wizard that caused the death but I have never seen a witch that has risen above death. These people we call wizards also die.”

He said there is no rational ascribing death to fellow beings since no human is immortal.

After the funeral service, Hon Justice Monica Mensem of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal prayed that God would give the parents of the late Jirbo the fortitude to bear the loss.

She described the deceased as gentle, calm and hardworking.

Jirbo who was 33 years on earth died in the early hours of 6th January 2010 on his way to Lagos. He was travelling at night on an 18-seater commercial bus with registration number Lagos XN 832 KSF.

The bus bearing the inscription Metromeg Motors crashed between Akure and Ilesha. Apart from Jirbo, a final year Law student of the University of Lagos also died in the crash.

Police said they were investigating the incident. They lamented that the owners of the vehicle had not shown up since the incident.

The late Jirbo was buried in his village, Akpagher, Benue State on 9th January 2010.

He is survived by parents, brothers and sisters.
