The Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has asked the state residents to use the yuletide to extend love, care and support for the vulnerable and the less privileged in the society. 

Ambode gave the admonition at the 2017 Christmas Concert, tagged: “The Nativity”, which was hosted by the Apostolic Faith Church in Lagos.

According to the governor, aside the celebration that comes with the yuletide, it is also important that the vulnerable in the society as well as the less privileged are shown love and are giving a sense of belonging. He said his administration recognised the need to engage the participations of all Lagosians in the state, hence the decision to host Christmas batch in strategic centres across the state.

“The essence of Christmas is not just to celebrate the life and time of Jesus Christ but to extend hands of fellowship and love to the vulnerable and the less privileged around us. Our administration recognised this fact and that is why we have adopted the decentralisation approach in celebrating this year festival. We have spread it and ensure that the celebration will be taking place across 20 centres across the state simultaneously,” Ambode who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mrs Toyin Awoseyi said.

Similarly, the District Superintendent, West and Central Africa, Rev. ‘Bayo Adeniran asked people to use the yuletide as a rebirth from sins while adopting new social values that will promote humanity. 

“As a people, we must use this period to change our ways, move away from sins and become rebirth. We must also use the period to stay away from corruption. Corruption is killing our nation, it is killing the future of our children and we must do everything to pull back from it and start on a new lease in 2018. We have organised this Christmas concert to not just celebrate Christ but to also reflect on his life and time and get prepared for his second coming,” Adeniran said.
