The kidnappers of five persons in Chukuku, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, have released them after payment of N11.5m ransom, a family source told Daily Trust yesterday.

The kidnappers initially demanded for the sum of N100m after they were taken from their homes in the night, but after a series of negotiations and pleading, the kidnappers agreed to collect N11.5 million.

A brother to one of those abducted, who gave his name as Emmanuel disclosed that the family went through a harrowing experience in getting the money for the ransom.

He also disclosed that the five victims are currently in the hospital for medical checkup, adding that they went through a lot before the family members were able to raise the money for the ransom.

He also said one person that was later kidnapped about three days after the first incident from the same vicinity was still in captivity, as the family was still sourcing for funds for his release.  

Emmanuel said, “We thank God, the five of them have been released but this was after we paid the sum of N11.5m, you know they initially asked for N100m that we should pay N20m for each of them. But we told them there is no money, even this one only God knows how we were able to raise the money.

“But they (kidnappers) are still holding some of the people kidnapped in the area. You know after like three days that they took my people, they came again and kidnapped one person. 

“That person is still with them, they are still asking for N20m but the family is talking with the kidnappers, we don’t know how much they will accept yet.

He also said the victims have been taken to the hospital for medical checkup, “They were in the bush for days, so some of them are not feeling too okay. They are attended to by the doctors”. He said.
