Ministers of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) under FCT III have appealed for government assistance to provide roads and other amenities to Garagu village in Nasarawa State.

The church leaders made the plea during a medical and missions’ outreach programme in the community, which is about 18km from Abuja city centre, and neighbouring areas recently.

Over 500 indigenes of the rice-producing community received cloths and treatment for different ailments during the outreach.

The Pastor-in-Charge of Missions, Pastor Andrew Gandu-Magaji, said the new church and school donated to the community by the regional headquarters of the church in Abuja, will help bring life to the almost abandoned community.

Also speaking, Pastor Moses Olumodeji appealed to government to provide more primary healthcare facilities to the community to aid in the treatment of more critical illnesses, explaining that the items brought by the church were not sufficient.

He said the newly build church auditorium has made the village a regional mission field headquarters.

Also speaking, a medical team member, Dr Chris Levin, said the town is isolated and disadvantaged with the absence of health centres with many of the indigenes going to far places to seek medical attention.

He deplored the poor state of roads and other amenities in the community such as safe water, schools and health centres and appealed for more assistance.

“There are no facilities here. When we inquired from them some said the closest place for them is Federal Medical Centre, Keffi or the Karshi General Hospital, depending on which area they come from. Apart from Karshi General Hospital, we have not seen any visible health centre available,” he said.

He said the medical team handled cases such as malnutrition, hypertension, diabetes, malaria and ulcer and de-wormed over 100 children during the exercise.

A beneficiary, Hajiya Haruna has said she was happy her ailing baby received treatment for her ailment.
