The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), FCT Province 3, Abuja has organised a two-week skill acquisition training for 800 residents.

The beneficiaries acquired skills in fashion design, hat-making, catering, shoe-making, make-up, computer and phone-repair, website-design and graphics among others.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) unit of the province, led by Pastor Chinedu Ezekwesili, organised the training, which is the second this year.

“We are targeting about 3,000 or so, and we have reported 1,200. Please tell others to come and learn.  We want more than this number,” Pastor-in-Charge of Province, Titus Adedoyin, said.

Speaking on the importance of the programme, former Minister of Education and Vice President of the World Bank, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, said education and skills are important for the eradication of poverty in Africa, adding that it  would aid in countering the predication that by 2030, with the exception of Africa, all other continents would have eradicated poverty.

She urged Africans to ensure skills-based education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution where education is no longer based on cramming but how a person would manage basic cognition and use their talents and work to exchange values.

She advised the beneficiaries to have a business plan, seek for sources of funding and build collaboration as Nigeria is seeking foreign exchange.
