The Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIBN) has unveiled agency banking certification for point of sales (POS) agents, NIN/BVN agents, agent network managers, customer service officers, and agent banking personnel in banks and Fintech companies.

A statement by the institute said the Agent Banking Certification (ABC) programme was launched to address capacity challenges in the ecosystem.

The President and Chairman of Council, CIBN, Ken Opara, was quoted by the statement as saying that the certification will provide all-round knowledge, practical engagement with industry experts and participation in standard procedures for conducting agent banking business in the country.

“Agent banking has been the key driver of financial inclusion, which creates financial access points and ultimately eradicates poverty,” Opara said.

A professor at Lagos Business School, Olayinka David West, said the certification programme extends standardization and credibility to the agency banking framework.
