The Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO) has called on the US President Donald Trump to reverse his declaration recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. 

The organisation urged the U.S President to return to status quo to avert chaos. 

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the founder of Fath-ul-Qareeb, a faith-based group, Shaykh Sulaiman Adangba noted that Trump’s declaration came at a time when the whole of the Middle East is embroiled in violence which has resulted to human sufferings and loss of lives.

He said Trump’s announcement could further cause greater chaos if not reversed.

The cleric also called on the United Nations to take punitive measures against Trump’s administration for his December 6 announcement.  

The US vetoed Egyptian-drafted UN Security Council resolution rejecting Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. 

“The vetoing by the United States clearly shows the injustice in the U.N justice system. Is democracy no more relevant? A single nation’s vote renders ineffective that of 14 Security Council and 193 General Assembly members,” said Ustaz Dhikrullah Shafi, the Grand Mufti of CIO said. 

Meanwhile Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has called on the country’s Muslims to join the ‘Save Jerusalem’ solidarity rally at Putrajaya today to protest the declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
