The Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON) has announced it has received a no-objection letter from the Federal Ministry of Education for its ESS Assessor Workshop, as part of efforts to align with the National Skills Qualification Framework.

The institute also disclosed that it has submitted a memorandum to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), seeking the creation of the Office of the Printer-General of the Federation or a Printers Commission of Nigeria.

CIPPON President, Printer Koko T. Clement, said the steps were aimed at strengthening regulation in the printing industry and positioning Nigerian printers for opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

According to him, the no-objection letter clears the institute to train and certify assessors under the national qualifications framework.

He explained that the proposed printer-general office or commission would serve as a federal coordinating body for policies affecting the printing profession and industry.

“The move is part of efforts to integrate into Nigeria’s National Qualifications Framework and prepare Nigerian printers to compete under AfCFTA,” he said.

Clement said the proposed office would help promote print standards, regulate security printing, and provide oversight for government print assets such as ballots, official gazettes, textbooks and other sensitive documents.

He added that stronger regulation would also help protect the integrity of security printing and boost investor confidence in Nigeria’s print sector.

Speaking on AfCFTA, Clement said the continental trade agreement offers Nigerian printers access to a wider African market and opportunities for cross-border recognition of professional qualifications.

He said aligning CIPPON certifications with national and continental standards could enable Nigerian printers to work across African countries without additional qualifications.
