Cisco to expand academy in Africa

The company’s Vice President Dr Robert Pepper disclosed  this on the sideline of the just concluded Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation (CTO) forum in Abuja.
According to Pepper, “Cisco currently has 790 Networking Academies in Africa, with more than 77,581 students and 1,570 instructors”.  
He said “245,470 students in the continent have attended the programme which is running in 40 countries in Africa”.
Dr. Pepper said the programme offers students an opportunity to pursue IT curricula through online instructor-led training and hands on lab exercise and the training allows people to graduate from the Academy fully trained and employable.
He also said the company has also provided networking technology in 37 schools through the new partnership for Africa’s Development and they are in the process of providing networking solutions for e-schools in nine additional countries which include Burkina-Faso, Cameroon, Gabon, Kenya, Lesotho, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria and Uganda.
He added that Cisco has fully implemented NEPAD e-schools in Rwanda, Mauritius, South Africa and Ghana.
The Vice President Global Technology Policy of Cisco said the organization is committed to supporting Africa as a significant contributor to Cisco’s overall business success. He said Cisco is well position for the future in the continent and they are focused on helping businesses and governments drive sustainable growth by providing network based technologies that can help organisations innovate, drive new business models increase productivity and create new jobs.
He added that Cisco is committed to working with governments and organisations in Africa to support job creation by building ICT skills and talent as well as creating the opportunities for individuals, communities and nations will undoubtedly positively impact the standard of living and the economic prosperity of countries in the region.
