The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has said the high rate of corruption in the education sector is a major barrier to achieving Goal 2 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in 2015.

The Executive Director of the centre, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, who said this in Abuja, added that corruption in the sector could hamper the achievement of MDG goal two on universal primary education still lingered.

He was speaking on the centre’s conference tagged: “Setting the Anti-Corruption Agenda for the Incoming Administration”.

Rafsanjani said corruption in the education system symbolised unchecked mismanagement of funds meant for projects thereby resulting in ill-equipped laboratories, libraries and classrooms.

He listed others to include embezzlement, politicisation of education, bribery, abuse of office, sexual misconduct and unmerited advantages.
