The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has revealed that it recorded 276 Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases from August to September in Kano State.

CITAD noted that 18 of the cases were rape; whereby most of the victims were girls, with just one male victim; 121 of the cases were of sexual harassment; 58 were sexual abuse; 47 were online harassment, 18 were sexual blackmail, 12 were wife battering and one was heating a female by her nephew.

Programme Officer, GBV, Zainab Aminu, said, “It is worthy of note that the public have started reporting cases through the monitoring app and have made contact with some of them.

“Over the last two months, we received a total of 276 cases of GBV through our monitoring app. This has highlighted the pervasive nature of this crime in Nigeria.”

She added that the most important message was that governments should have zero tolerance for violence against women and children.
