The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has organised a two-day capacity-building workshop for government officials, policy analysts, and policymakers to address gender and climate gaps in Nigeria’s digital policies.

Speaking at the workshop, Fatima Babakura, Project Lead for the Greening and Feminist Centering of the National Digital Transformation Agenda, said the initiative is supported by the Association for Progressive Communication (APC).

“This project, supported by APC, is now in its final stage, with the workshop serving as a key activity,” Babukura explained.

“Part of the activities is to bring together government officials, policy analysts, and policymakers to analyse the gender and climate gaps in Nigeria’s digital policies.”

She revealed that about 20 government organisations were invited, with 25 to 26 participants in attendance. “At the end of this workshop, we hope to highlight and address the significant gender and climate gaps in our digital policies,” she added.

On the effectiveness of the training, Babakura expressed confidence in its impact. “We believe this two-day programme will enrich participants because we brought together experts from different fields to ensure the message is well communicated. We are at the final leg of the project,” she said.

She further disclosed that CITAD had conducted research on four key policies, which revealed significant gaps. “From this research, we developed a policy brief containing our recommendations and the gaps identified during the project,” she explained.

Babakura added that the organisation also held webinars with stakeholders and activists, whose recommendations were incorporated into the policy brief.

On measuring effectiveness, she said CITAD would follow up with agencies to monitor how the knowledge gained during the training is applied in policy reviews.
