The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has mourned the passing of Chief David Ajibola Olorunleke, FCTI, the Institute’s Founding and First President/Chairman of Council (1985–1995), fondly known as the Doyen of Taxation in Nigeria.

Afolake Oso, Registrar/ Chief Executive of the institute described Chief Olorunleke a trailblazer and visionary leader.

The founding President passed on peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025.

The statement said, “His illustrious career spanned several decades of exemplary service to the nation as Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance, and Board Member, FIRS.

“He was a mentor, patriot, and tireless advocate for the growth and professionalism of taxation in Nigeria.

“As the Institute mourns this monumental loss, we celebrate a life of purpose, leadership, and enduring legacy.”
