The building constructed by Rescue Mission of Imo State Government housing administrative block, quarter guard, armoury department, technical department and provost unit and society block replaced the shanties earlier occupied by the command since inception.
Speaking at the official commissioning of the complex, Governor Rochas Okorocha directed immediate return of about 4,000 officers transferred out of the state due to lack of accommodation to the state.
Commending the command and sister security agencies for securing the state, he urged the Federal Government, individuals and cooperate organizations to pay maximum attention to the welfare of security agencies in the country to ensure better security services to the nation.
The governor said NSCDC which in the past had little regard has today been turned around since the appointment of its current leadership.
The governor announced the donation of three pickup vans to the corps to assist the Imo Command in its operations.
He lamented the wanton killing of innocent Nigerians by the Boko Haram sect as well as the increasing criminality in the country and stressed the need for the Federal Government to equip security agencies to be able to tackle the growing challenges.
The Commandant General (CG) of the corps, Dr. Ade John Abolurin called on Nigerians to look at the predicament of security agencies and render meaningful assistance to them so that they can work properly for the protection of lives and property.
He assured, “The command along with other sister security agencies in the state are prepared and ready to work with their sweat to make Imo better.”
While commending the state governor for adding value to the officers and the command, Abolurin expressed joy that the era of his men being tenants in the state has gone.
He said, “It is easy to condemn or criticize security operatives, but when you don’t provide environment for them to operate, you can’t blame them.”
In his welcome speech, the Imo State Commandant of NSCDC, Adamu Soja Saddabs recalled that on his arrival to the state command to assume duty, he observed that the command was housed in a ramshackle structure with leaking roof.
He thanked the governor for changing the ugly face of the command.
