A staff member of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Bagudu Mohammed Waziri, has pledged to donate N20,000 monthly—split equally between the Nigerian Police Trust Fund and the Armed Forces Trust Fund—for the remainder of his service.

Waziri made this known in a letter dated April 15, 2026, addressed to the Accountant-General of the Federation. He explained that his decision was inspired by President Bola Tinubu, who reportedly donated his entire salary to support the armed forces.

In the letter, titled “Donation in Support of the Nigerian Police Trust Fund and the Armed Forces Trust Fund,” and copied to key officials including the Minister of Finance, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Inspector-General of Police, Waziri also urged Nigerians to make similar contributions in support of security agencies.

“I humbly write to notify you of my decision to forthwith make a monthly contribution of ten thousand naira (N10,000) each to the Nigerian Police Trust Fund and the Armed Forces Trust Fund from my salary until my retirement,” he stated.

He added that the gesture reflects a commitment to supporting personnel who risk their lives daily to ensure national security and territorial integrity.

“I believe that if, as patriotic citizens, we each contribute in our own little way, we can collectively bridge the funding gaps faced by these critical institutions,” Waziri said.

He further requested that the appropriate accounts be provided to enable the SEC’s Finance Department to commence deductions directly from his salary.
