A Gombe State Chief Magistrate’s court has released a 35-year-old civil servant that was remanded in prison custody for allegedly insulting Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo and his mother.

The accused person, Abubakar Adamu, was first arraigned before the court on September 18 over a one-count charge of giving false evidence, an offense the police prosecutor said contradicted Section 156 of the Penal Code Law.

Adamu, who works with the state Ministry of Higher Education, was alleged to have forwarded an audio clip laden with insults on the governor and his mother to one Inusa Dattijo who later sued the accused.

He, however, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in prison custody by Chief Magistrate Japhet Maida.

At the resumption of hearing yesterday, the court granted his bail application.

He was ordered to bring a civil servant not below grade level 12 and that he should also bring the verification slip he was issued with during the recent verification exercise conducted by the state government.

The case was thereafter adjourned to October 10 for continuation of hearing.
