The Nasarawa State Chief Judge and Chairman Nasarawa Judicial Service Commission, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu, has established 13 small claims creation warrant courts that will provide easy access to justice for petty traders and peasant farmers in the state.

The CJ, at the signing of the small claims creation warrant, said the courts would exercise territorial jurisdictions within the local government areas where they are designated to operate in accordance with Nasarawa State’s practice.

She said the aim of establishing the small claims procedure was to provide easy access to an informal, inexpensive and speedy resolution of simple debt recovery disputes in the Magistrate courts in the state.

According to her, the establishment of small claims creation warrant courts would prevent the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps from interfering in cases outside their core mandate and surcharging petty traders and peasant farmers in the state.

The CJ commended the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, for his support and for giving the judiciary the executive backing to establish small creation warrant courts in the state.
