CJ grants bail to 4 women, 10 others in Awka prisons

Fourteen inmates have been granted bail by the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Peter Umeadi during his jail delivery services at the Awka prisons which marked the end of the exercise in the state.

Those granted bail were Nkechi Nnamanni, Ifeoma Arinze, Chinonye Nwankwo, Sarah Zainab Umeh, Musa Mohammed as well as a 55-year old Michael Nwoye, from Okpuno Awka South Local Government Area, who had been in the prison for the past nine years,

Umeadi, at the commencement of the proceedings, said the template for the exercise would focus on those who have serious health issues, longest serving inmates and juveniles among others.

He noted that the exercise was targeted at decongesting the prison and at the same time to attend to those who have been in prison for a long time without trial.

Expressing satisfaction with the success of the exercise, the chief judge commended all the relevant authorities for their contributions, but noted that there was still room for improvement.

A total of 28 cases were treated at the end of the proceedings.
