Speaking during the programme, Justice Katsina-Alu, who expressed appreciation to God that the ceremony took place in spite of threats and intimidation from certain quarters, described the lawyers as eminently qualified and richly deserving of their awards. He advised the newly sworn SANs to uphold the honour of the law profession. “Do not sell your integrity and conscience at any place or time,” the CJN cautioned.

In the roll call of SANs were two female lawyers: Mbamali and Akinlawon, while three academics: Smith, Akper and Igwe also received their certificates of distinction as SANs from the CJN. Meanwhile newly decorated Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) have called for an amendment of the second alteration of the constitution which provides for governorship election petition appeals to the Supreme Court.
