CJN trial: South South governors meet in Abuja today

Ahead of the planned arraignment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday over non declaration of assets, the South South Governor’s Forum has scheduled an emergency meeting in Abuja on Sunday to deliberate on the issue.

Fidelis Soriwei, Special Adviser to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, who is also the Chairman of the forum told Journalists in statement on Sunday morning in Yenagoa that the governors in the zone will deliberate on the recent development involving the Chief Justice of the Federation, security of the Niger Delta, during and after the election and the issue of derivation.

On the planned arraignment of the Chief Judge of the Federation, Governor Dickson said that while he was yet to know the full details surrounding the developments at the Supreme Court concerning the CJN, it is a grave and dangerous escalation, coming a few weeks to the general elections.

According to him, the South South Governor’s would address a press conference after the meeting to convey the position of the zone to the Nigerian public.

He said that all efforts must be on deck to prevent the subversion and desecration of the ethos of democracy in Nigeria as nation moves nearer to the election.
