The Nigerian Law School Alumni Class of 1989 has donated an e-Learning/e-Mentoring/e-Continuing Legal Education (CLE) portal to the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja.
This was done at a recently held ceremony in Abuja to mark the class’ 30th Anniversary of Call to Bar.
The e-platform is aimed at supporting quality training and retraining of NLS students, especially young lawyers.
According to Emeka Albert, Chairman of the NLS Class of 1989, the e-platform “is a first in Africa and will transform legal education and legal practice in Nigeria within a short period.”
He said NLS Alumni Association, Class of ’89, is a not-for-profit and non-political organization promoting good and standard vocational training in legal education and the legal profession.
This, he said, informed their resolve to build and maintain an e-Learning, e-Mentoring, e-CLE and alumni portal for all Nigerian lawyers and law school students to revolutionize the legal profession through systematic training and retraining of practicing Nigerian lawyers and law school students.
He said the portal will afford Nigerian lawyers and law school students the opportunity to acquire elevated practical knowledge from seasoned practitioners virtually and seamlessly.
“This will also facilitate exchange of trade expertise among all Nigerian lawyers, with a view to improving access to and quality of justice in Nigeria. As more people interact with the e-portal, we shall have better trained and well-equipped Nigerian lawyers with 21st Century practical legal experience and a functional and robust mentoring scheme for all Nigerian lawyers and students,” Albert added.
He said alumni around the world can also donate directly to the NLS via the e-portal to support projects undertaken by the NLS in order to facilitate their vision of transforming the school to a world-class learning institution.
