A renown Muslim scholar, Engr. Abubakar Abdullahi Fari, has charged Muslim parents to ensure that they prioritized Islamic knowledge and formal education of their children to be able to face the multifaceted challenges of the world.

He gave the charge in Book 8 of his ‘Rediscovering the Qur’an’ series with the sub-theme “Knowledge from the Islamic Perspective” released in 2021.

The Katsina-born scholar and certified engineer said that this can only be possible if the family, which is the foundation of child upbringing is also stable.

“The family is the beginning of child upbringing and guidance to make a child become useful to himself, family as well as the society at large,” he said.

Citing verses from the Glorious Qur’an, Malam Fari also said, “Muslims must be utmost in setting the conduct of their children to face the challenges of the world. They must give their family members Islamic education at an early stage and train them to acquire formal education.

“It is necessary to concentrate on skill acquisition and education for management of resources on a private or governmental basis.”

He said in the 410-page book that this will prepare the children to earn a living wage and be law abiding citizens that will assist to create wealth and not become a liability or criminals.

He said, “Each family member to achieve this should live by example and also try to live within their means. Many who bear children with no concern for their welfare stand to make life difficult for all.

“With the proper understanding of the Qur’an, sunnah of Prophet (Muhammad) and practicing them to the letter will set the ball rolling,” he said in the concluding part of the 10-chapter book.

Other titles of the Rediscovering the Qur’an’ series which was first released in October 2007 were Rediscovering the Qur’an; the rights of women, children, orphans and the poor in Islam (2009); remembrance of Allah (2010); the implication of time in Islam (2011); understanding the root and essence of unity in Islam (2013); arrogance, its characteristics and consequences (2014); and terrorism, the Islamic perspective (2016).
