Dr. Bamidele Kehinde, Director of Dynamic Ambassadors for Social Orientation Initiatives and the City Transformation Project, has expressed appreciation to the Federal Government of Nigeria for its role in facilitating the release of Pastor Benjamin Egbaji, who had been in detention in the Benin Republic for over two years.
Pastor Egbaji, a Nigerian cleric, was released following a presidential pardon granted by the government of Benin Republic under the leadership of Patrice Talon.
Speaking on the development during a programme on News Central TV, Dr. Kehinde commended the diplomatic efforts that led to the pastor’s freedom, noting that the process was prolonged and required sustained engagement. He highlighted that progress was recorded after Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu assumed office as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
According to Dr. Kehinde, the minister engaged relevant authorities in Benin Republic through diplomatic channels, including official visits and discussions, which contributed to securing Pastor Egbaji’s release.
Dr. Kehinde reiterated his appreciation to the minister for her commitment and extended gratitude to individuals and institutions who supported the advocacy and diplomatic efforts.
Those acknowledged include Moses Eyo, Dickson Umu Unung, The Government of Cross River State, CP Alobi Lawrence (rtd), Joseph Bisong Ayi, Blessing Harrison, Eze Sampson and Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo.
He noted that Pastor Egbaji’s release marks a significant milestone and expressed hope for his successful reintegration.
Dr. Kehinde also called for continued government commitment to protecting Nigerian citizens abroad and strengthening diplomatic relations across West Africa.
