A cleric, Pastor Chidi Nwankwo has implored  on the government to accord priority to the welfare welfare of the vulnerable people and those with disability in the country.
Nwankwo of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (Great Commission Assembly), Alakuko Lagos made the call during the Church’s welfare and outreach programme.
The welfare programme targeted people suffering from Down Syndrome and Pupils of Special Schools in the state and was  designed to give financial and spiritual support to the beneficiaries.
Nwankwo, who said that the programme was instituted many years ago as part of the Church’s sacrifice for the less privileged, said the welfare programme would go a long way in giving succour to the beneficiaries.
He said, “Every third Sunday of the month like this we have a welfare Sunday. We’ve this outreach for the needy. You can see today we have two of our groups who are representative of the less privileged centre- Down Syndrome Foundation of Nigeria and Oki Special School. They are today’s beneficiaries of the welfare.
“Today, we are making sacrifice of welfare. Sacrifice is the act of foregoing something in order to achieve more important things.
“For instance, a nursing mother can sacrifice her work in order to look out for the new born baby. To take care of the new born baby is more important to her than the work because she cannot leave the baby to die, the baby needs to be breast-fed, taken good care of, given medication and all that.”
