The Yobe State Government in collaboration with the Global Peace Development (GPD) has trained 50 people on waste disposal to reduce and mitigate the impact of flood disaster in the state.

The State Project Coordinator Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Yobe State Shehu Alhaji Mohammed, stated this to newsmen at the training venue in Damaturu, Yobe State.

Represented by the Social Livelihood Officer, ACReSAL Malam Usman Muhammad Inuwa, the Coordinator said the training is part of the state government effort to mitigate flooding in vulnerable communities in Gujba and Damaturu LGAs which are exacerbated by poor waste management practices.

He said 50 people were selected from Damaturu and Buni Yadi in Gujba LGAs to be actively trained on proper waste disposal to mitigate the impact of floods in areas.

“If waste are properly disposed we will reduce flooding and that also will reduce the environment and save lives. Because if we manage the environment, we save our lives.

In his remark, the Executive Director of the Global Peace Development Mr. Ebruke Onajite Esike, said the participants would be teach how to they could turn waste to resources and Empowerment.

“Our plan is how can we turn this waste to resources how can we use this waste to empower people how can we use this waste to serve as manure how can we get to beauty literally so this lane is what we want to impart to them,” he said.
