Sigma Club, a socio-philanthropic organisation, opens discussion on how formal education has become excessively unattractive to Nigerian youths through maiden essay competition.
The topic for which entries are solicited is ‘Formal Education and the Nigerian Youth: Why is the Street Taking Over?’ First prize is N100, 000, second prize 50, 000, and third prize 30, 000.
The Sigma Tertiary Essay Competition is inspired by discussions by social commentators in recent years on how formal education is declining among youths in terms of quality and process  how the government at all levels are paying grossly inadequate attention to this anomaly and how social and non-educational activities are at the core of corporate fascination.
Established in 1950, Sigma Club is the oldest surviving of its kind in Nigeria to develop the leadership, managerial and communication skills of male undergraduates of the University of Ibadan with the bigger aim of breeding whole men who will help engineer the Nigerian society.
Deadline for the Sigma Tertiary Essay Competition is July 15 .
