CNN, MultiChoice hold third annual workshop for journalists

A statement from multichoice said about 150 journalists are expected to participate in the training/workshop.

John Ugbe, Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, said: “MultiChoice is delighted to bring back the annual media workshop, which is meant to equip journalists plying their trade in the country with the best, modern and up-to-date skills requisite for effectively overcoming the challenges of their jobs.”

He enjoined all participants at this year’s edition to take advantage of the opportunity, expressing confidence that lessons learnt will no doubt translate to career success for them and lead to immeasurable benefits for both the industry and the country.

Segun Fayose, Head of Corporate Communications, MultiChoice Nigeria, said: “The annual CNN/MultiChoice Media Workshop has set an agenda for the practitioners of journalism in Nigeria. The last two editions focused majorly on ethics and ethical considerations in the practice of journalism and the dominant paradigms in news reporting. There was also a special focus on political reporting of the April 2011 general elections in Nigeria. The theme of this year’s workshop is, ‘The impact of technology on the practice of journalism in Africa’ while the sub-theme is ‘Adoption of technology, new media and the rest of us’”.

He added that MultiChoice has lined up a number of resource persons to facilitate the workshop, amongst whom are: Mike Awoyinfa and longtime associate, Dimgba Igwe, both directors of The Sun Newspaper’s Board; Richard Ikiebe, Director, Centre for Media Studies, Pan-African University; Debo Adesina, Editor, The Guardian; and Ikechukwu Amaechi, Editor, Daily Independent and member of the CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award’s panel of judges.
