The assistant coach of Nigeria U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, Mansur Abdullahi, has expressed happiness over the team’s qualification for the 2024 FIFA World Cup in Cambodia.

The Falconets picked the ticket to the World Cup on home soil on Saturday after they secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Burundi for a 2-0 aggregate.

The Nigerian girls had laboured to a 1-0 win in the first leg of the final qualifying match in Dar es Salaam before the return leg which was played at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former Super Falcons assistant coach said the victory over Burundi was well deserved even as he said the Falconets squandered so many goal-scoring opportunities in both legs of the fixture.

However, Abdullahi who doubles as Technical Adviser of Sokoto United said having secured the World Cup ticket the technical crew led by Chris Danjuma would return to the drawing board to emerge with a more formable squad for the task ahead.

“I am super excited by the World Cup ticket. That was what we set out to achieve and by the special grace of God we have done it.

“The task was made difficult because the players failed to utilise the chances they created. If they had scored the goals, the margin of victory would have been wider.

“We thank God for this success and I believe with the usual support from the NFF, we shall start preparations for the World Cup proper in good time,” said Abdullahi.
