Speaking to Feverpitch yesterday, the fiery sports critic said the coach is yet to come to terms with his present status as he said Siasia still behaves like a player.
According to him, it is not wrong for the coach to prove that he is in charge of the team but if he continues to pick petty quarrels with all his players, especially those who are very important to the team, he is bound to fail.
Gombe said the coach needs to know that he is not only a coach but manager of the players because he would have to deal with even their personal problems.
He explained that past coaches of the national team did not make a public show of their differences with the players because they were more tactical and mature in their approach.
Gombe said Coach Amodu Shuaibu also had issues with players like Osaze Odemwingie but because of the way he handled everything, nobody got to know about it.
His words: “Siasia is behaving like a player. He quarreled with Osaze, he moved on to Dickson Etuhu and now it is Vincent Enyeama. He has to know that he is not just a coach but a players’ manager. If he wants to succeed, he should be ready to grow.
“If he continues to behave like a tyrant, he will fail because he won’t get the best out of the players. His predecessors like Amodu Shuaibu managed these players without making a public show of anything that happened”.
Gombe said it is not wrong to prove that one is in charge but when it amounts to tyranny, it becomes unacceptable.
