The Coalition of Youth Leaders for One Nigeria (COYLON) has expressed support for the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), while urging unity and sustained efforts in addressing the country’s security challenges.

In a statement issued in Abuja by Comrade Isaac Owoicho, its National President and Dr. Kennedy Tonjo West, its Vice President, the group described Musa’s appointment as “one of the most strategic decisions in strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture.”

COYLON said the retired general “rose through the ranks of the Nigerian Armed Forces with honour, discipline and professionalism,” adding that he demonstrated “courage, operational depth and strategic leadership” during his military career.

The group also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for steps taken to enhance the country’s defence capacity.

It stated that “the approval of additional resources for the procurement of modern military equipment, alongside efforts to enhance operational capacity reflects the Federal Government’s determination to confront insecurity decisively.”

The coalition paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces who have lost their lives in the line of duty, noting that “their courage, sacrifice and patriotism remain the bedrock of Nigeria’s security.”

Addressing recent public commentary on national security, COYLON urged caution and responsibility in public discourse. It said Nigeria’s security challenges are “longstanding and complex,” requiring “sustained strategy, coordination and patience.”

The group emphasised that the country’s security framework involves “a structured chain of command that includes operational theatres, service chiefs, intelligence agencies and multiple layers of strategic oversight.”

COYLON called for constructive engagement, stating that “at this critical moment, Nigeria needs unity of purpose,” and reaffirmed its “total support” for the Defence Minister and ongoing military operations.

It also encouraged the Armed Forces and intelligence agencies to “remain resolute in ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency and banditry,” adding that “Nigerian youths stand firmly with them.”
