A coalition of civil rights groups, under the aegis of the Coalition for Democratic Accountability and Civic Protection, has released a statement condemning what it described as renewed attempts to question the integrity of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, over claims related to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
The statement, jointly signed by Comrade Adesemoye Olakitan and Comrade Chisom Ochiaga, expressed concern about what it called “recurring efforts to politicize unfounded allegations” regarding the Minister’s credentials.
According to the coalition, several media and institutional verifications had previously clarified the matter, but “certain interests continue to circulate unsubstantiated claims.”
The groups stated that the allegations could distract public attention from ongoing reforms at the Ministry of Interior and urged all parties to allow relevant authorities to address any issues through due process.
“We appeal to all stakeholders to avoid actions capable of diverting focus from national priorities and governance reforms,” the statement read.
The coalition also disclosed plans to submit a petition to the Department of State Services (DSS), the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), and other relevant agencies, calling for an investigation into the sources of the recurring allegations.
Reaffirming their confidence in Dr. Tunji-Ojo’s leadership, the coalition commended his efforts in improving passport processing, correctional services, and border management under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
The statement concluded by urging the public to rely on verified information and to “disregard unsubstantiated reports that could undermine public trust in government institutions.”
