A broad-based national coalition made up of civil society organisations, professional associations, labour groups, artisan bodies, and grassroots networks has announced its support for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The group also disclosed plans to present 20 million signatures in endorsement of the President’s candidacy.

The coalition, led by the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON), said it comprises more than 1,500 organisations drawn from different sectors of society.

These include human rights groups, medical and legal professionals, trade and artisan unions, community-based organisations, and labour leaders across the country.

It further announced that a national convention has been fixed for May 17, 2026, where delegates from participating groups will formally gather to declare their backing for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

In a statement signed by Tabuko Kennedy, the coalition’s National Secretary, it stated: “The historic convention is scheduled to hold on May 17, 2026, where leaders and representatives of the various groups are expected to converge in what organisers say will be the largest endorsement gathering in Nigeria’s history.

“The event will serve as the official platform for the coalition to collectively declare support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.”

The coalition also revealed plans to submit a total of 20 million signatures collected from Nigerians nationwide in support of the President.

It stated: “In a major demonstration of grassroots mobilisation, the coalition also revealed plans to submit a compiled total of 20 million signatures of Nigerians who have endorsed the President’s candidacy.

“The signatures, gathered through extensive nationwide engagement, are being positioned as a clear indication of public support cutting across regions, professions, and social strata.”

According to the group, the endorsement is based on what it described as progress in economic reforms, governance, and efforts aimed at strengthening national stability.

It added that the involvement of artisans, market groups, and labour unions demonstrates a wide-based national consensus beyond traditional political structures.

The coalition maintained that its mobilisation spans diverse segments of society and represents one of the most extensive political alignments witnessed in recent years.
