A coalition of over 50 human rights and pro-democracy organizations in Nigeria under the auspices of United Action for Democracy (UAD) with support from Mobilization for Development (M4D) has carried out a project to improve in-school and out of school girl child education enrolment and retention through a livelihood skills acquisition in Sumaila Local Government Area, Kano state.
Addressing the girls during the training at Sitti ward, the project coordinator Fatima A Ibrahim said that girls’ withdrawal from school was a bad omen to the education sector adding that M4D had been working with civil society organizations in five wards of the are training the girls on knitting, tailoring, dyeing and baking with the sole aim of making them self-reliant to ensure retention up to finishing their school.
