Coalition Lauds Sole Administrator For Reviving Rivers Civil Service

Barely three days after the oversight visit of the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Administration, the Coalition for Civil Service Reforms (CCSR) has commended the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.), for his transformative reforms in the state’s civil service and the rehabilitation of decayed infrastructure.

In a statement signed by its National President, Comrade LarryKing Amos, and released to journalists on Sunday, the Coalition noted that beyond ongoing reforms and interventions, the Sole Administrator has consistently prioritized workers’ welfare through the regular payment of salaries.

According to the group, these efforts have greatly boosted morale among civil servants, fostering peace, unity, and harmony between the workforce and the state government in recent months.

The Coalition also expressed appreciation to the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee for acknowledging the Sole Administrator’s contributions, while welcoming the Committee’s directive for an urgent overhaul of the dilapidated State Secretariat.

“As a group that has long campaigned for civil service reforms, we have repeatedly raised concerns about the poor state of key government facilities, including the Assembly Complex, the Civil Service Commission, and the Secretariat—especially the 6th and 7th floors, which had become unsafe for occupation.

“But since the assumption of office by Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, we have seen deliberate steps to prioritize the safety and welfare of civil servants. His interventions have brought relief and renewed hope to workers in Rivers State,” the statement read.

The Coalition further praised the House of Representatives for approving the urgent renovation of the Secretariat, describing the move as “timely, life-saving, and worthy of commendation.”

It would be recalled that during its inspection last Wednesday, the Ad-Hoc Committee, led by House Leader and Chairman, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, mandated the immediate overhaul of the Secretariat complex and the relocation of staff from unsafe offices.

Professor Ihonvbere, after touring the facility, described its condition as worse than structures in war-torn Gaza, citing structural hazards, leaking roofs, exposed electrical wiring, and the lack of basic amenities such as functional toilets, clean water, and furniture.

The committee subsequently ordered the closure of hazardous floors and the relocation of workers to safer offices.
