Coalition urges stakeholders to rally behind Zulum’s preferred successor

The Northern Coalition of Youth Group has congratulated Engr. Mustapha Gubio on his anointment and nomination by His Excellency Governor Babagana Umara Zulum as his preferred successor to the seat of Governor of Borno State come 2027.

This was contained in a statement signed and released by the National Coordinator of the group, Abba Audu Benisheikh, in Abuja.

In the statement, the coalition commended Governor Zulum for what it described as a “visionary and courageous decision” to endorse Engr. Gubio, noting that the choice reflects the governor’s commitment to continuity, capacity, and the consolidation of the developmental gains recorded in Borno State under his administration.

Governor Zulum has once again demonstrated uncommon leadership by identifying a successor who has the capacity, experience, and loyalty to sustain the gains of his administration,” the statement said.

The group further expressed profound appreciation to Governor Zulum for his leadership and for prioritizing the interest of the state above personal or sectional considerations in settling for Gubio as his preferred successor. According to Benisheikh, the anointment will strengthen the All Progressives Congress in Borno and ensure stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group highlighted Gubio track record in public service, noting that he served as Commissioner, Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement during Governor Zulum first tenure, where he played a pivotal role in rebuilding communities affected by insurgency and as Commissioner, Ministry of Works and Housing in the second tenure, where he delivered on critical infrastructure projects across the state. According to the coalition, his stewardship in both critical ministries demonstrated competence, loyalty, and a deep understanding of Borno’s post-conflict recovery and infrastructure needs.

“Engr. Gubio is a tested administrator and a loyal party man. His track record shows he has the competence to drive peace, security, and development in Borno,” Benisheikh added.

The Northern Coalition of Youth Group called on all stakeholders, party leaders, elders, youths and faithful across Borno State to align with Governor Zulum and support Engr. Gubio as the consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship race.

“We appeal to all stakeholders to back Governor Zulum’s preferred successor in the interest of unity, party cohesion, and the continued progress of our dear state,” Benisheikh concluded.

The Northern Coalition of Youth Group pledged to commence statewide youth mobilization across the 27 local government areas of Borno to ensure victory for Engr. Gubio at the polls.
