Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged the troops of the Nigerian Army 6 division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to ensure sustained security in the country so as to enhance oil production in the Niger Delta.
Speaking at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground while addressing troops of the Division during his maiden operational visit to Headquarters 6 Division, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State, Shaibu reassured officers and soldiers of the Division, that their welfare remains a top priority.
He charged the troops to continue to discharge their responsibilities in protecting critical national infrastructure, saying since his assumption of command, he has visited various formations and units to obtain firsthand information on their operational readiness and reassess their challenges.
He said that deliberate steps were being taken to address these challenges, assuring personnel that he places a high premium on the welfare of officers, soldiers and their families.
He also urged them to remain disciplined, committed and dedicated to the realisation of the Division’s mandate in pursuit of his command philosophy.
He said: “Let me assure you that the Nigerian Army will take care of your work issues, which is our topmost priority. You get what you deserve and what you are entitle to you. This will go along way to mitigate some of the accommodation challenges.”
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, said the troops were battle ready to discharge the mandate of the command.
