The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Connected Development (CODE), Malam Hamzat Lawal, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give security chiefs a clear timeline to fulfill their mandates on insecurity or face removal.

He said this on Thursday in Abuja at the unveiling of CODE’s 2023 Annual Report.

He acknowledged Nigeria’s progress with 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, noting that more was needed to be done.

He said, “As we celebrate democracy, it is a time for us to also reflect on our journey. Some people will say we have not achieved much, but I think we should pause and look towards the future.

“President Tinubu needs to keep his promise. He has said that whoever he gives a job must meet specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

“I think the president needs to do the needful as he has done with recent events in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.”

He lamented that despite significant budget allocations for security, Nigeria still faced severe security challenges, thus the need for President Tinubu to issue marching orders to the service chiefs to ensure the safety of lives and property.

Also, Director of Democracy and Governance at CODE, Mr Emmanuel Njoku, noted that no democracy was perfect, and enjoined Nigerian youths to be more involved in politics for a better future.
