Provost of the College of Education Azare, Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed Isyaku, has said a total of 49 officials including lecturers have resigned to take other jobs in the last nine months. The provost made the remarks at the 7th National Zonal Conference of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) held in Azare recently, according to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the school, Mallam Suleiman Shehu.
He appealed to the state government to grant the college approval to employ additional staff as recommended in the just concluded accreditation exercise by the National Universities Commission (NUC), adding that about 49 officials have left the college within nine months for various reasons.
COEASU also appealed to the government to send back the 13 lecturers posted to various institutions in the state from the college. It also asked the government to pay the lecturers two months outstanding salaries. The 13 academic staff of COE Azare were redeployed to various higher institutions in the state for their involvement in a strike.
The statement said the National President of COEASU, Dr. Emmanuel Asaghamade, made the appeal saying, “We are appealing to the state government to return the academic staff that were deployed due to the strike action embarked upon by COEASU and the payment of their two months salaries.”
The national president commended the effort of TETfund in making the college a standard teacher training institution through provision of structures, facilities and training of academic staff.
