Dr. Ajayi, who was speaking at the college’s convocation ceremony, said the institutions prefer to employ unqualified teachers so that they can pay them small amount of money.
“The best brains are running from teaching profession and that is why we are still battling with international standard of teacher/student ratio in the country,” he said.
He added that even in terms of admission, only those who are tired of seeking admission into the university and polytechnics are patronising COEs and this has brought about low admission into the colleges with only 120 students for this new academic session to be admitted through JAMB.
He said a total of 3,948 students comprised of 2010/2011, 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 sessions graduated from the college. Out of the figure, 16 students had distinction, 880 credits, 2004 merit, 788 with pass and 60 with lower pass.
He added that the college plans to have a befitting maternity health centre at Osiele in Odeda Local Government Area of the state for its students, staff and the host community.
