Speaking in Abuja, the chairman said that the education sector needed more financial commitment from stakeholders to achieve its desired goal.
Goro explained that a Need Assessment Committee was set up to go visit institutions of higher learning to identify their fundamental needs so that government will address the problems, adding: “The Needs Assessment Committee has completed its assignment and submitted its report to the ministry. We are studying it.
“Constitutionally, it’s not in our power to implement policies, ours is to provide the financial wherewithal for government to implement the policies and programmes that will impact positively on the people.”
The chairman said his committee has worked with some actors and players in the education sector, adding that the committee has noted the areas of achievements and weaknesses of the sector.
“We will see how we can advise the executive to improve by looking at legislations and requirements in the sector to especially empower the (education) ministry to continue to do the best for the sector and Nigerian students,” he said.
