Mr Retson Tedheke, the Secretary-General, Nigeria Farmers Group Cooperative Society says the group is encouraging Nigerians in the Diaspora interested in farming to own farms in the country.

Tedheke told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Sabon Gida, Nasarawa State that no matter the locations of an interested farmer, he or she could own a farm in the country.

‘’No matter your location in Nigeria or abroad you can own a farm that is the reason for creating the cooperative.’’

He said that the cooperative would help them in planting and harvesting the products to be sold for them on a profit sharing formula.

According to him, one of their major challenges is the herdsmen/farmers clash and it is being handled by stakeholders amicably.

“The other big challenge is electricity because of the additional cost being incurred using alternative power sources,’’ he said.

Tedheke said that the Nigerian economy suffered a downturn because agriculture was neglected due to over-dependence on imported products and crude oil.

‘’If agriculture was given priority, and we are a productive economy, we should have been exporting finished goods with the benefit of earning increased foreign exchange.’’
