I am compelled to bring to attention the deplorable state of the Mbagbeentya community in the Katsina Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. Despite contributing significantly to the state’s development, the community has been neglected by the government and its elected representatives since 1999.
The community’s infrastructure is in shambles, with poor roads, a dilapidated primary school, and a lack of basic healthcare services. The once-thriving Kenvanger local market lies abandoned, a stark reminder of the community’s plight. Insecurity has also plagued the community, with a devastating attack on September 11, 2016, that left over ten people dead and many more injured.
Furthermore, on November 21, 2021, heavily armed men of the Nigerian Army invaded a wake-keep ceremony, arresting over thirty innocent men, whose whereabouts remain unknown to date. The community’s efforts to recover their relatives have been unsuccessful, and their voices have fallen on deaf ears.
As Williams Shiho, a 68-year-old resident, poignantly puts it, “We’re not asking for much. We just want the same basic services and amenities that other communities take for granted.” The community is not asking for special treatment but for the basic rights and services that every citizen deserves.

As the present administration of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia approaches its two-year milestone, the people of the Mbagbeentya community remain hopeful for change. They deserve to be seen, heard, and valued. They deserve to thrive.
I urge the government to take immediate action to address the community’s grievances and provide the necessary support and resources to restore their dignity and well-being.
The people of the Mbagbeentya community have been patient for far too long. It is time for the government to take action and address their grievances. I hope that this letter will serve as a catalyst for change and that the community will soon receive the attention and support they deserve.
