M-Net Comedy Club: Live in Lagos has provided that escape for most Nigerians. Showing every Saturday on M-Net at 8.00PM, the series has returned to DStv screens for season two, following a successful first run in 2009.
Having aired earlier in March, DStv audiences got to see two Nigerian comedians, Lepacious Bose and Apororo. Hosted by IK Osakioduwa, fresh off his stint on Big Brother Africa, COMEDY CLUB is a stand-up comedy based series, with special performances from The Sharp Band providing musical entertainment plus interviews with the comedians themselves about their lives, careers and aspirations.
Yesterday’s show featured stand-up comedy routines from Nigeria’s Basket Mouth and Zambia’s Bob Nkosa.
Born Bright Okpocha and going by the stage name Basket Mouth, this well known Nigerian comedian’s professional stand up act only came into existence in 2000. His big break came when he met Ali Baba (who is regarded as the king of standup comedy in Nigeria).
Basket Mouth made it big when he featured in international concerts that had the likes of Joe, Boys 2 Men, Sean Paul, Beyonce, Snoop Dogg and many others.
He has come a long way from the gangling youth who, with his brother in 1995, formed a group called DA PSYCHOPATHS and then D ODDZ.
