Commercial banks in Niger State have embarked on an indefinite strike following the disagreement with the State Revenue Board over tax evasion which resulted in the closure of eight banks since September 8 by the Niger State Board of Internal Revenue.
Although details of the strike are still sketchy, a staff of Access Bank Minna who prefers to be anonymous, told our correspondent that the strike was caused by a new tax introduced by the state government.
All ATM centres have also been shut by banks, leaving customers with only POS as an alternative.
Customers in the state have, however, appealed to the state government to, as a matter of urgency, resolve the problem as it would compound problems for citizens.
