Commercial driver stabs wife to death in Adamawa

A 57-year-old commercial driver, Muhammed Alpha, on New Year’s day allegedly stabbed his wife, Hamsatu, to death in Lande town in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Yola on Sunday.

He said the suspect, a commercial driver of Lande in Gombi Local Government Area, stabbed his late wife, Hamsatu Muhammad, 40, with a knife following a little argument between them.

He said the argument led to the separation of the over 20 years’ marriage.

The police spokesman said the command on January 1, 2022, apprehended a 57-year-old commercial driver for stabbing his 40-year-old wife to death.

He said according to first-hand information, after their separation, the wife relocated to a nearby house close to her former husband’s house.

“In an effort to fix her new room, she (late Hamsatu) removed a zinc door of her former house to fix on her new apartment.

“Angered by her action, the suspect used a knife and stabbed his wife and mother of his eight children in the neck.

“As a result of the injury, she fell and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead,” Nguroje added.

He said the suspect was apprehended by Gombi police division following a report received from Malam Jauro  Boka, a village head of Lande.

The commissioner of police in the state, Mohammed Barde, has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter and advised members of the public to avoid taking laws into their own hands. (NAN)
